April 19th – Advanced Projects – Top Down Circular Yoke Sweaters Part 1 of 4

$35.00

Skill Level: Experienced Beginner to Advanced

Class Description: If you take a look on Ravelry is seems that every designer has recently created a top down, circular yoked sweater with either textured stitches or color work! In class you may choose any pattern that is knit in this manner although I highly encourage you to choose one of these four patterns:

Humulus by Isabell Kraemer

Sunset Highway by Caitlin Hunter

Zweig by Caitlin Hunter

Rug by Junko Okamoto

But you may choose any pattern from this search: Top Down,Circular Yoked Sweaters

Please keep in mind that finer yarns will take longer to knit and we are moving into the warmer months.

Material Needed:

For Humulus by Isabell Kraemer

  • Yarn: 1094 – 1783 yards Brooklyn Tweed Shelter or other worsted weight yarn. Includes 140 to 300 yds of a contrasting color.
  • Needles:

US 5 (3.75 mm) 16” (40 cm) and 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for neck, body and sleeve ribbing.
US 6 (4 mm) 24” (60 cm) and 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for body and sleeves.

  • Other Notions: Stitch markers and tapestry or darning needle.

Gauge: 20 sts x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in Stockinette stitch on larger needle after blocking.
Due to variance between knitters, color work should be swatched to determine whether to go up or down a needle size to keep gauge consistent.

What skills you should have: You should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round on double points and circular needles

What skills you will learn: short row shaping, color stranding, circular yoke construction

Homework:

  • Purchase all materials and have yarn wound if needed.
  • Swatch as per pattern and launder as you will launder the finished sweater BEFORE measuring gauge. Be sure to obtain gauge before coming to class. Please contact Terry or the store if you need help swatching.
