Class Name: Simple Garments – Siena by Erika Knight Part 1

Class Cost: $35 per 2 hr session
Skill Level: Beginner who has at least knit a scarf and a hat in the round through Advanced
Class Description: A simple short-sleeved top knitted in stockinette stitch with a subtle sheer yoke and beautiful drape. It is knit in two pieces with a few short rows for shaping.
The class will run for a minimum of 3 session (a 2 hour class every 2 weeks) with more possible as determined by how far students get in the 6 weeks.
Pattern calls for: erika knight studio linen (85% recycled linen/15% premium linen) approx. 120m/131yds – 50g/13/4 oz hank 6(6:7:7:8) hanks
Other suitable yarns – Anzula Vera, Louet Euroflax or any sport to dk blend of linen, rayon, silk, bamboo, or cotton. Yarn must have some drape.
3.75mm/US 5 and 5.5mm/US 9 needles
5mm/US 8 circular needle
stitch holders or waste yarn
spare needle (for 3 needle bind off)
large eyed blunt tipped sewing needle
Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.
Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm/4in meas over St st using 3.75mm/US 5 needles.
Change needle size if necessary to ensure the correct tension.

Skills you should have: You should know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.
Skills you will learn: You will learn short row shaping, 3 needle bind off, sleeve shaping, mattress stitch seaming, and weaving in your ends using duplicate stitch.
Homework: Please purchase and have your yarn wound if needed.
Swatch! For a properly fitted garment you must get the pattern gauge with your chosen yarn and the needles you will be using for your project. Swatches should be 30-40 stitches wide and a minimum of 4” high. Laundered as you will launder your garment, dried and allowed to rest at least 24 hrs before measuring gauge. We will be happy to assist you with your gauge questions.
