Class Description: In the first class you will learn how to tension the yarn, how to create the basic crochet stitches – chain, single crochet, & double crochet, slip stitch, and how to work flat and in the round. In the following classes you will make a hat to practice your new skill! You will also learn how to read a basic crochet pattern.
Materials needed for practice:
- 1 hank of Cascade 220 wool yarn in a light to medium color.
- Crochet hook size G, 7, H, or I. Please purchase a hook with a more pointed end, this is helpful to many students.
Materials needed for hat:
- Choice of two different hat patterns that will be provided.
- You may wish to purchase 1 skein of a different yarn for your hat. Suggested yarns are Malabrigo Rios, Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, or Berroco Ultra Wool.
Skills you will learn: You will learn to tension the yarn, chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and slip stitch. In addition, you will learn how to read a basic pattern and work increases.
Homework: Please purchase and have yarn wound before class time.
