Beginner Hat - Knitting 201 - August



Learning to knit in the round is the next step after creating your first scarf in Beginning Knitting and hats can teach us so many new things. This class is scheduled in 4 two hour sessions for a relaxed pace for beginners.

In this class you may select from a simple WWII watch cap beanie or the more stylish, slouchy Koko Bean Hat by judithmarieknits.

Prerequisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent experience.

Material Needed:

  • Pattern: Classic WWII Watch Cap OR Koko Bean Hat (The WWII pattern is free, Koko Bean pattern is $4.00, we can help you download and print the patterns if needed.)
  • For either hat 1 hank Malabrigo Rios, Berroco Ultra Wool, or 200 yds of worsted weight yarn
  • For both hats US #7 16″ circular and #7 double pointed needles or size to get gauge. If you knit tight, go up needle sizes. Iif you knit loosely, go down needle sizes.
  • Tapestry or darning needle
  • Stitch markers
Session 1: Cast on and learn how to join in the round and knit on 16" circular needles as we create the brim of our hats.
Session 2: Transition from the brim to the body of the hat.
Session 3: Continue the body of the hat, troubleshooting, and start the crown decreases.
Session 4: Crown decreases, learn how to shift from the 16" circular needle to the double pointed needles to complete your hat.



Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Prerequisite: Beginning Knitting or equivalent experience. You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and alternate between knits and purls.

Instructor: Terry King
Instructor Bio: Terry has over 45 years of fiber arts experience and has been teaching knitting & crochet in the local Reno area for over 13 years. Her teaching style is inclusive. Her philosophy is that you will learn best working with your own natural inclinations and abilities. She can teach both left & right-handed.
