Knitted Christmas Stockings All Year

Let's get started on 2026's holiday stockings now so we can create our unique treasures at a leisurely pace!

Classes will be the 3rd Saturday each month through December Each month's class is purchased individually.

Over the years Terry has custom knit many stockings to add to many families' collection after the original knitter has passed on. She has a wealth of knowledge about what an older stocking pattern is and where we can find the pattern and how to replicate it.

Bring one of your families treasured stockings to duplicate or choose from one of the many patterns available through Ravelry. Terry will walk you through each step of finding or selecting the pattern of your choice, selecting the right yarn and needles and can offer many tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Pattern(s):

Bring your own sample or pattern, select from this extensive search on Ravelry, or if you want a simple basic stocking then Terry suggests Churchmouse's Basic Christmas Stocking pattern. Terry can help you narrow your choices if you need help or feel overwhelmed choosing.

Materials:

Typically stockings are knit in worsted weight (#4) yarn. Wool will be less stress on your hands than acrylic but sometimes when we are duplicating a family stocking consistency demands we use what the originals where made with. For this reason while we prefer that you purchase your yarn from us, we will allow yarn purchased elsewhere for this class. Things to consider when choosing a yarn are durability and washability. Another thing to think about is what shades of holiday colors do you like. There are many different shades of red, green, and white. Or perhaps you want blue or purple instead?

Suggested yarns that we carry are Cascade 220, Cascade 220 Superwash, Cascade 220 Superwash Merino, Berroco Vintage, Malabrigo Rios, Jody Long Bubbakins, Plucky Primo in DK or Worsted, or Plucky Legacy DK or Worsted.

We also suggest using 24" - 40" long circular needles rather than straight needle as they too are less stress on the hands. Size of needle will depend on your pattern, chosen yarn, and your individual gauge. Terry can also help you figure this out too.

Bring your thoughts and what supplies you have and we will spend the first class planning, selecting and swatching. Subsequent classes will move along at each student's individual pace.
