April 3rd & 24th Make a Mitt – Beeswax Mitts by Amy van de Laar

Class Name: Make a Mitt – Beeswax Mitts by Amy

Class Date: Wednesday, April 3 and April 24

Class Hours: 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Instructor: Sue-Ting Chene

Class Cost: $60 for two 2-hr classes

Skill Level: Advanced Intermediate and up

Class Description: Make a Mitt with a fancy looking honey comb design. Up your knitting game by twisting right or left leaning cables with or without a cable needle, making a thumb, and choosing the right bind off. Keep your hands warm and fingers free as everybody cranks up the air conditioning.

I don’t recommend this to be your first mitt nor your first cable project.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: 140 yards of DK (sample in Urth Harvest Worsted)
  • Needle: Size 3 (3.25 mm) or what you need to get gauge
  • Yarn needle
  • Cable Needle (optional)

Pattern: Beeswax Mitts by Amy van de Laar (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beeswax-mitts)

Gauge: 25 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette (or adjusted to fit your hand)

Finished Measurements:

To fit women’s medium (or 7.5” palm circumference), but stretchy enough to accommodate 7-8” hands.

Suggestions are included for re-sizing.

Skills you should have: knit, purl, slip two at a time as if to knit, knit through back loops, cable with yarn in front, cable with yarn in back.

Skills you will learn: left leaning twist, right leaning twist, read a cable chart, make 1 left, make 1 right.

Homework: Please purchase materials and have yarn wound before class.

Yarn Recommendations: Urth Harvest Worsted, Brooklyn Tweed Arbor, June Cashmere DK
