June 1st, 8th, & 22nd – 8 hr Cocoknits Sweater Workshop


Class Name: Cocoknit Sweater Workshop – Knitting Top-Down, Seamless, Tailored Sweaters

Class Date: Saturday June 1st, 8th, & 22nd

Class Hours: 4 hrs. on June 1st 10:00am – 2:00pm, 2 hrs on June 8th & 22nd 10:00am-12:00pm

Skill Level: Experienced beginner and up

Class Description: This 8-hour class will lead you step by step through making a top-down, seamless, tailored sweater using the Cocoknits Method developed by Julie Weisenberger. The techniques used in the method create a beautiful fit and finish using almost any yarn.

  • June 1st – 4 hours – Sections 1-3: Upper Back, Shoulders & Sleeves, & Finishing the Yoke
  • June 8thSection 4: Completing your Sweater – Dividing sleeves and working on the body.
  • June 22nd Section 5: Working the Sleeves and Neckband

Material Needed:

  • Cocoknits Sweater Workshop Book
  • Cocoknits Sweater Worksheet Journal
  • Yarn: You can use a wide array of yarns. The crucial point for your first Cocoknits sweater is that you get a fabric you like with a gauge of 3 stitches per inch. The sample Emma version C Cardigan was worked in Berroco Aero. Suggested Yarns: Berroco Aero, Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky, Brooklyn Tweed Quarry or Cascade 128 Superwash.
  • Needles:
    • 40” long circular needle with flexible cord in size(s) according to pattern or size to get gauge.
    • DPN or circular needle size US 0-2 for picking up stitches
    • You may also want a 16” circular and double points in size to get gauge if you don’t like magic loop for sleeves.
  • Essential Notions:
    • Color coded stitch markers
    • Waste yarn or Cocoknits Threaded Needle & cord.
    • Measuring tape
    • Scissors
    • Darning needle
    • Pencil for filling in worksheet
    • Optional: Handi-tool, row counter, clip, point protectors

Skills you should have: Prerequisite: Students should be at least experienced beginners. This class can be suitable for a first sweater project.

Skills you will learn: Cocoknits method for knitting top-down, seamless, tailored sweaters which includes Fit, Style, Modifying fit, lifted increases, pickup then knit method, modified magic loop, Jeny’s stretchy bind off, invisible horizontal seaming, and depending on your chosen pattern possibly shadow short rows (aka twin stitch), Judy’s magic cast on as a provisional cast on, and Kitchener stitch.

Homework: Please purchase the book and other materials before class. Please be aware that sufficient yarn for you project may need to be orders so shop soon. You must also have a satisfactory gauge swatch worked and laundered before class. If needed, please have your yarn wound before class.
