Skill Level: Experienced beginning and up

Class Description: This 10 hour class will lead you step by step through making a top-down, seamless, tailored sweater using the Cocoknits Method developed by Julie Weisenberger. The techniques used in the method create a beautiful fit and finish using almost any yarn.

If you need help planning your project you must attend the Saturday April 20th planning class.This is a prerequisite for the workshop! We will go over fit, style, how to swatch, and then help you choose the best pattern and yarn combination for your body and tastes. You will then have 10 days for ordering yarn, if needed, and working up a proper gauge swatch from which we can proceed onto the next class.

May 2nd Class begins with Anatomy of a Cocoknits sweater, casting on, working the setup.

May 9th The setting up the worksheet and getting started on the yoke

May 16th Dividing for sleeves and beginning the body

May 23rd Returning to the sleeves

May 30th Binding off & Finishing

Material Needed:

  • Pattern:
    • Cocoknits Sweater Workshop Book
    • Cocoknits Sweater Worksheet Journal
  • Yarn: You can use a wide array of yarns. We will help you choose an appropriate yarn in the April 20th class. The sample Emma version C Cardigan was worked in Berroco Aero.
  • Needles:
    • 40” long circular needle with flexible cord in size(s) according to pattern or size to get gauge.
    • DPN or circular needle size US 0-2 for picking up stitches
  • Essential Notions:
    • Cocoknits color codes stitch markers
    • Waste yarn or Cocoknits Threaded Needle & cord.
    • Measuring tape
    • Scissors
    • Darning needle
    • Pencil for filling in worksheet
    • Optional: Handi-tool, Row Counter, clip, point protectors.
    • You may also want a 16”circular and double points in size to get gauge if you don’t like magic loop for sleeves.

 

Skills you should have: Prerequisite: Planning your Cocoknits project Saturday April 20th or equivalent experience or private class. Students should be at least experienced beginners. This class can be suitable for a first sweater project.

Skills you will learn: Cocoknits method for knitting top-down, seamless, tailored sweaters which includes Fit, Style, Modifying fit, lifted increases, pickup then knit method, modified magic loop, Jeny’s super stretchy bind off, invisible horizontal seaming, and depending on your chosen pattern possibly shadow short rows (aka twin stitch), Judy’s magic cast on as a provisional cast on, and kitchener stitch.

Homework: Please purchase the book before April 20th. For May 2nd you must have a satisfactory gauge swatch worked and laundered. Please have your yarn wound (if needed) before class.
